Medical statistics show that almost fifty percent of the people have crooked teeth or teeth which are naturally not aligned properly. The smile of a person is affected if the top and the bottom teeth don’t meet properly. Dental Braces are used to bring back the teeth into a position which not only ensure the proper placement of teeth but also build up the confidence of the individual and improve facial structure.
Types of dental braces:
- Brackets– These are attached to the front of every tooth. They are available in stainless steel, titanium, gold, silver, plastic or ceramic. The stainless is the most affordable option but it tends to stain the teeth. Titanium may be used by people who are allergic to stainless steel but these are expensive. People who prefer gold and silver colour have that option available. The plastic and ceramic ones are used by individuals who do not wish to show that they wear braces. However, plastic and ceramic are prone to discolouration and cause friction between the teeth and the wires which increases the period of treatment.
- Lingual – These are attached to the back of the teeth and thus can be kept away from view. They tend to get a little uncomfortable and initially cause trouble to the wearer while speaking. They may also cause cuts and sores in the mouth.
- Traditional bands – These are metal braces that are wrapped around every tooth. This is an outdated option.
- Invisalign – The latest technology used by many, Invisalign is a set of braces made of clear, comfortable plastic. These are easier on the wearer and he is not restricted in his eating habits while using these. They are much easier to maintain but are comparatively expensive.
