Back in the days!

Dentistry in the years gone by involved wooden dentures and nitric acid to whiten teeth. These methods had their side effects and were flawed.

About thirty years ago, dentists started using porcelain to fill in the crevices and cap teeth. Metal braces have been used for ages. The traditional way of whitening teeth by using acids that erode the enamel, gave way to fluoride. Although later it was discovered that an over use of fluoride dis-coloured teeth.

Cosmetic dentistry in today’s time

Nowadays metal braces are becoming increasingly uncommon. Acrylic or plastic braces have taken their place. Plastic aligners are worn in stages; each stage straightening the teeth a bit more, until the result is finally reached.

These braces or aligners as they are called, are removable. They can be taken off when you brush your teeth or sleep. Plastic aligners are an improvement over metal braces, which had to be worn continuously for three to four years. Whitening procedures are a lot safer, and people now have a variety to choose from.

The future consumers now, is that cosmetic dentistry is not only restricted to a certain class of people. Teeth whitening products are available at local pharmacies. This trend has only one way to go, and that is up.
